Traces

This series began as a challenge for me. Could I work less conceptually, learn new tools, and allow my intuition and subconscious to take charge. Planning, previsualizing, and then executing an encounter with my subject and collaborator is my typical creative mode of image making photographically. I sought inspiration and found the work of Karen Divine. Karen exposed me to a radical way of image making that was transformational. I learned to ignore and ultimately surrender my ever noisy, judgmental mind to allow for the immediacy of the moment to make my decisions. Just see what would happen next!

Using my iPad and Procreate I experimented organically in a foreign land has led me to places that are surprising, illogical delightful and magical. Working in layers digitally one discovery has led to another. Similar elements appeared; use of depth, ambivalent settings, dream-like environments that defy rationality. A series has emerged!
